JOIN US NOW & HELP PROTECT THE SPANISH SPRINGS AIRPORT!!

The Spanish Springs Airport (N86) has been in continuous operation since 1970. It is a public airport but receives no Federal, State or Local funds. The Spanish Springs Pilots Association (SSPA), a non profit Nevada corporation, provides all the funds needed to lease the land from the BLM, pay the insurance premiums and maintain and operate the airport to the safest extent possible.

We have expensed about $100,000 for legal fees during the last two years opposing the developers and Washoe County’s efforts to construct homes next to the airport. Unfortunately most of those homes have been constructed with the exception of the four literally at the end of the runway. And on August 31st a pilot aborted his landing on 16 and his Cessna hit a house. (One of the several we strongly suggested not be built). No one was injured.

NOW some of our neighbors are in an uproar and want the county to do something. We think we have a solution.  We are looking at ways to realign the runway by about 20 degrees to the southwest. Several of our County Commissioners are open to the suggestion that the county acquire title of the land from the BLM so that the realignment can be done. Contact your commissioner for your district and let him/her know you support this option.

As with any non-profit group we need money J

We need the funds to continue the efforts to educate the public about general aviation and continue to protect this valuable public airport and our neighbors by realigning the runway. But the SSPA’s budget is straining under the legal fees, mostly coming from the members’ pocket.

If you want to donate funds to help these efforts please send check or money order made out to the

SSPA or Spanish Springs Pilots Association

OR you call Dianne Bartmess @ 775-425-4285 if you want to donate using your credit card.

What we are asking is something that we don’t think will strain anyone’s budget but will help the airport immensely, is to donate $25.00 a month for one year.

Everyone involved are all volunteering their time. Your contribution of $25 a month for one year would go a long way in promoting the Spanish Springs Airport and its continuing efforts to promote general aviation awareness and safety.
